2014 was a very good year for us. We saw and helped many new families and we had an increase in volunteer applications. Here are a few things that happened over the course of the year:
January: We more than doubled the children that we helped the following year. It was a great way to start the new year! We also had our first ever Volunteer Appreciate Party. We had a great turnout, and we all made some beautiful cards to use for our families. Thank you so much to all who came.
March: We were one of several vendors at the Bonner Springs Wellness Fair. This was such a great way to get our name out there and serve one of our communities. We had two fundraisers for Birthday Blessings. We sold Pizza Hut cards as well as T-Shirts. Monies received goes to marketing our organization, website costs, and even to help purchase gifts for those children who were not taken. We appreciate the support on all levels.
July: Birthday Blessings – KC has joined the world of Twitter. Our handle is @bdayblessingkc. If you have a twitter account, find us today and follow us!
August: We sent out flyers in phases for this school year so that not all of our applications were coming in all at the same time. This helped a little bit, but we were quite busy in the fall.
September: We added a new school district to our list of districts we serve. We welcomed the Turner School District. All flyers were handed out by the middle of September. We sent out 15,188 flyers this year!
October: This month proved to be the biggest month since our existence. We set a new record and served 71 children! To see how far we have come since 2011 is such a great thing.
We ended the year busy and strong and we wound up serving 428 children for the year 2014. An amazing accomplishment and one that we would not have been able to do without the dedication and help from all of our volunteers.
2015 we will be focusing on how we can make a bigger impact in our communities and will be making some changes. We will keep you updated as we begin to make these changes.
I want to thank all of you who have supported us and who have helped Birthday Blessings be what it is today. Without our bakers, gift givers, and donors, we would not be able to do what we do.
