We are at the end of the year, and our December numbers have come out. This month, we helped 41 children. We have remained busy since September, and although we were busy, each child was helped and each child had a smile on their faces. We love that we can do this each and every month, and we appreciate all our volunteers who help us make it happen each and every month.
We would like to thank the following volunteers who helped make December the success that it was:
Kristi O, Sheila H, Nichole S, Bethany H, Kelly C, Linda G, Shauna P, Barb D, Kim M, Shelby R, Julie H, Abby F, Beverly G, Jordan B, Merilee C, Sarah H, Linda R, Gretchen S, Serenity S, Kim C, Lori N, Amy P, Judy A-S, Annette C, Jodi O, Sherrell T, Amber B, Jennifer S, Dorothy Lambert, Karen S, Jill R, Kimberly A, Pamela C, Jordan C, and Laura R.
This month’s Volunteer Spotlight has been with us since February. We’d like everyone to meet Kristi O!!
I have always had a special place in my heart for children. Once my own children were old enough to be in school full time, I quit my job in retail to take a position in the Olathe school district as a Para-Professional. I have had the privilege of working with lots of children with special needs that included Autism, Down Syndrome, ELL, and Dravet Syndrome. Then, about a year ago my part time position with the school district was being eliminated and I was told I could either work full time or not have a job. I did not want to make that “Full Time” commitment while still having my own children at home. As a result, I decided to quit that job and focus strictly on volunteer work. I quickly found opportunities with my church, and with Kids TLC in Olathe, as well as several opportunities my family and I take advantage of through Sprint where my husband works. While searching, I also came across an article in the KC Star about Birthday Blessings KC and thought what a great way to combine two of my biggest passions, working with children and baking. I find it very fulfilling to know that I am providing a deserving child with a special birthday cake (or cupcakes), gifts or balloons and hope they know that they are all special and deserving no matter what.
